Sorry its been so long since I wrote. I'll try to be more frequent but I can't
promise anything. You know how it is.
I got three of my hides turned into leather. Two of them are completely
done (and one of these is used up already!), one isn't soft enough for me so
I need to rebrain it, and another is in the frame awaiting scraping. I think I'll
finish the last two up in July sometime.
A friend of mine mailed me some bloodroot, so thats another thing I need to
do - sort quills (again) and get them in the dye. The roots are dry and I
haven't used dried ones before so we'll see how that goes. Another project
for July...
I'm busy working on a modern piece these days. I hope to enter it in a fiber
show in St. Louis. The deadline for submission is July 7 but I plan to have it
done, or mostly done, by the end of this week. I've taken scraps of leather
and sewn them together and I'm doing quillwork on the seams so it looks
like a crazy quilt. The edges are rough, somewhat like a hide, and its about
12" x 24" . I plan to sew it into a curved metal frame so it looks kind of like
a stretched hide and hang it lengthwise. Right now I think I'll sew it in with
pink or red cord and have tassels at the bottom. When its done I'll post
pictures here. I like where the piece is going so far and its been fun to
work on something so different from what I usually do.
I was fortunate to be able to go to Vincennes for their big rendezvous and
also to Bourbonnais for the NWTA Grand Encampment. It was great to get
out and see friends again, and nice to pick up a couple commissions as well.
Better get back to work. I'll post again soon - but don't hold your breath.
LOL!!
